Waihi are planning a White Ribbon event which will be live skits in the middle of town featuring local people from community agencies. The scenario’s will centre around a ‘kitchen table family dinner and a pub”. The narrator will be interacting with the audience throughout the storyboard – to get their thoughts and ideas on what the family needs to do to improve their safety.

This will raise awareness amongst the refugee population about WRD and what it means in NZ. If you’re interested in registering a team, or know someone who might be, contact Roger Boulcott, rogerb@relationships.org.nz Wellington Christmas Book Appeal 1pm, 25 November For the past 3 years on White Ribbon Day, the Altrusa Club of Wellington has launched an appeal for books for the children in refuges at Christmas in the Wellington region. We put a tree in the Children’s Bookshop in Kilbirnie and ask the public to buy a book for a child Altrusa Wellington will pay the first $10 of the cost. Annette King will again launch our appeal on White Ribbon day and it will run through to Christmas. The Bookshop puts up some posters and encourages the customers to take a White Ribbon from the box on the counter. To date we have donated just over 1000 books. This year the Federation and NZ Police at its national conference in Christchurch are holding an awards night, where acknowledgement of volunteer work for the earthquake will be recognised. We intend to have White ribbon visibility by all members there (Nov 5-6). Every year we have distributed White Ribbons in all regions (Nov 25th).
