| 6 November | Radio Live | Mark Longley | Compere Patterson talks about November’s White Ribbon campaign, and explains it aims to promote a message that violence towards women is unacceptable. The father of murdered teen Emily Longley, Mark Longley, has become an ambassador for White Ribbon and he comments on the public perspective on domestic violence. Longley says that the public need to change their attitude and confront others involved in such violence. Longley talks about the ‘extreme’ behaviour displayed by Emily’s murderer and former boyfriend Elliott Turner, and explains there were plenty of people who would have been aware that he was ‘out of control’ that did not take action. Longley says many believe such people are all ‘hot air’ and would not follow through on their threats. Longley explains he never met Turner but says his angry behaviour in the weeks leading up to his daughter’s death was not ‘normal’ and should have been noticed. Longley explains that White Ribbon prompts men not to ‘condone, tolerate or remain silent’ about domestic violence. |
