Safe at Home, Safe at Work
6 November  6:00pm
Ludo McFerran from the Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearinghouse’s Safe at Home, Safe at Work project is visiting New Zealand in November 2012. She will speak at a public forum on domestic violence and the workplace in Auckland on Tuesday 6 November, 6-8pm. The highly successful ‘Safe at Home, Safe at Work’ project promotes the introduction of domestic violence clauses in industrial instruments with unions and employers.
Research shows that women who experience domestic violence have a more disrupted work history, are on lower personal incomes, have had to change jobs frequently and are more likely to be employed in casual and part time work than women with no experience of violence. Supporting women to maintain employment is critical to maintaining or attaining economic independence. More than 650,000 employees in Australia are now protected by access to domestic violence clauses.
After Ludo’s presentation, Holly Carrington (Shine’s DVFREE project) and the It’s Not OK campaign team will present on some of the work done in this area in New Zealand.

Community members will share their stories with us and  the local schools will perform a song to finish off the morning. After our speakers we have a shared healthy breakfast, then we march around the local neighbourhood with our banners and musical instruments spreading the message about the event.
